"I chose to believe those who had proven it was possible"
My family and friends thought I was crazy "You will not make any money!" It was certainly not easy to go against the flow, but I had to make a decision, so I chose to believe and listen to the people who had proven it was possible, rather than those who had tried it earned nothing and criticised it. My justification was simple, people who knock sales are those who were not prepared to put in the time studying, If I go through life listening to people who are pessimistic, what chance have I got of leading a successful life?
After visiting the local book store and arming myself with a couple of books, and with my mind made up to give it a go, out I went in to the big world of commerce, to prove that anyone could do this. What I discovered was that salesmanship is not learnt in a couple of weeks, but is something you slowly refine during the rest of your life. Instead of reading novels, read books on personal development. Also, keep cassettes, in your car or hi-fi.. After a period of time, you will discover oppertunities arise, where you can try these techniques, and as you start to apply them, you will find they work, and you will get a real buzz from it, to the extent, that you will WANT to hear more.
One of the best books I ever studied was by Tom Hopkins. It was not clear enough for me to understand at the time, the very heart of making a sale by utilising Emotional Buying Motives, but it was certainly the bible I lived by in my early selling years, and one I would certainly reccomend. The book entitled "How to master the art of selling" certainly gives an abundance of tools with which any new comer to the game can immediatly start earning decent commisions. I can not remember the titles of the second and third books, but they were from the "Alfred Tack" organisation.
